Using #Ubuntu a final step (root required) failed also:

sudo sh root.sh

The error is this: yourpath/product/11.1.0/db_1/rdbms/install/rootadd_rdbms.sh: 14: /bin/awk: not found

I’ve installed gawk and then create a symbolic link to fool the script: sudo ln -s /usr/bin/gawk /bin/awk

I’m getting this same error trying to install 10.2.0.1 on Fedora 8 (32-bit). Installed libaio and libaio-devel but no dice. :p

Thanks for posting this; I used your advice to make it work on Debian stable (etch). The packages on debian are:

libaio1
libaio-dev
